Abu Mas’ud reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever guides someone to goodness will have a reward like one who did it. ”

If you decide to educate a child today, whatever good the child does with the education will grant you as much reward the child gets.

This is a form of Sadaqatun Jariyah (flowing charity), it will give you long term reward from Allah even if one dies, in as much as the educated child benefits from the knowledge or even uses it to benefit others.
