What Is Sadaqah Jariyah?

Ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah ) is a kind of waqf (endowment), which is what is mentioned in the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), according to which the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “When a man dies, all his good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah), beneficial knowledge, or a  righteous son who will pray for him.” Narrated by Muslim (1631).

This is one of the best forms of charity as the rewards doesn’t stop even after the death of the giver. So long as people continue to benefit from that sadaqah, the reward continues being immensely given to the giver of the sadaqah.
